Blood Sugar Testing

Finger-Stick Testing Blood Glucose (Sugar) Goal:

According to the (NIDDK), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the ideal goals for most people with diabetes when finger-stick testing using a blood glucose (sugar) meter are:

  • Before Meals: 80-120 mg/dl
  • At Bedtime: 100-140 mg/dl

Your doctor may prescribe different goals for you.

The Hemoglobin A1c Test
The hemoglobin A1c test is a lab test that shows an average amount of your blood glucose (sugar) levels over the last 2-3 months.
